Health sector management grows in popularity among business students

As the healthcare industry continues to evolve, a need for business professionals in this sector is on the rise. In an effort to close the demand gap, schools nationwide are launching more health administration degree programs.

The University of Miami School of Business Administration has created a new bachelors degree specializing in health sector management and policy. Classes are expected to begin this fall.

Students who enroll in this program will learn how to apply business skills in the healthcare industry. By earning this undergraduate degree, individuals will also be qualified to enroll in advanced programs in health administration, health economics, medical sociology and public health.

Skills learned in this program will prepare students for employment in a variety of environments, including hospitals, health systems, medical groups, pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms, care management groups, supply chain management companies, policy organizations and health insurance providers.

Steve Ullman, director of the new degree program, stated that "as the population ages and as more and more managers are needed to improve quality and efficiency while controlling costs, health sector employment will continue to grow at a rapid rate." He added that "our students will be well prepared for the opportunities that come with this growth."

Government statistics suggest that by 2018, the employment of medical and health services managers is expected to increase by 16 percent, and will create approximately 45,400 new jobs.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19851189-ADNFCR
