Individuals who would like to launch a high-paying career may benefit from higher education in veterinary science. According to Payscale.com, veterinarians can earn as much as $87,803 each year.
To ensure that students receive the education they need to find a job in this field, some groups are partnering with schools to develop new teaching facilities.
Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College and the Asheville Humane Society have made a joint effort to build a clinic for the school's veterinary technology students. The new facility, which also serves as a pet adoption center, has laboratories and classrooms where these individuals can watch surgeries being performed by veterinarians.
Diane Cotter, the school's veterinary technology chair, says "the clinical setting here provides students with an optimum learning environment." She explains that once the students are finished with their courses, they continue to work in the lab and animal clinic for another year.
Individuals who are interested in becoming veterinarians may benefit from obtaining a degree from schools that have similar programs. Job opportunities in this industry continue to increase, as the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that over the next eight years, there will be 19,700 new positions created in this field.
