Green initiatives may improve employment opportunities

People who are interested in pursuing an advanced degree in sustainability may find job opportunities in a variety of industries, including business. Many companies are looking to implement eco-friendly practices into their work, which is expected to create a number of new jobs in the coming years.

VerticalResponse is one of those businesses, and it recently announced the expansion of its social responsibility through sustainability, which includes the transition to windpower that may reduce the company's carbon footprint. Wind-generated electricity, provided by NativeEnergy, may expand its email marketing services to companies while reducing the waste of paper used to print advertisements.

The business also plans to lower the impact their employees have on the environment by creating a recycling and composting program. In addition, VerticalResponse will end the use of plastic utensils and cups, use recycled paper for print materials and order from local suppliers as much as possible.

Employment of environmental scientists and specialists is projected to increase by 28 percent in the next eight years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 2008, the BLS reported that the average annual earnings of these professionals ranged from $45,340 to $78,980 per year.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19746050-ADNFCR
