The cost of a college tuition may be too expensive for some students. However, there are programs available that help to help cover this financial burden.
For example, The American Indian College Fund (AICF) recently received a grant totaling $100,000 from the Arizona Public Service Foundation (APS). The donation will go toward a new scholarship - the APS Navajo Scholars Program which is designed for students who are obtaining a degree in technology, engineering, science or math.
Enrollees within the Arizona and New Mexico state university system, including those at Dine College and Navajo Technical College, will be eligible for the financial aid packages.
Richard B. Williams, president and CEO of the AICF, said that a greater number of students will now be able to "pursue their passions" and dreams because of this donation.
Part of the grant will also go toward next year's American Indian Students Summer Leadership Training - a week-long program that will aim to provide scholars with the opportunity for career development as well as networking.
Students who wish to obtain a degree in science or engineering may benefit from similar scholarship programs. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, professionals who work as managers in these fields have the potential to earn more than $140,000 per year.
