Students who enroll in engineering or technology degree programs may be qualified for scholarships available to individuals who specialize in these fields. Future degree holders who take advantage of these opportunities can further their education at an affordable cost.
For instance, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Education Foundation recently received a $150,000 grant from the Gene Haas Foundation. This funding will be used for financial assistance opportunities for those enrolled in machine operation and maintenance programs.
Applications are currently being accepted for these scholarships, and the last day to apply is September 1. Winners will be awarded financial aid ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 each.
In order to be eligible, applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent certificate and be U.S. citizens or legal residents, the SME website reports. Students must also be pursuing a career in engineering, technology machining or a related specialization.
In addition to a completed application, qualified candidates need to submit their resume, an essay, two letters of recommendation, proof of work experience and a copy of their academic transcript.
"We are proud to support machining technology education," said Bart A. Aslin, director of the SME Education Foundation. He added that "we are grateful to the Gene Haas Foundation for entrusting us with this generous gift to bring scholarships to deserving and needy students from across the country."
