Veterans who have returned home from service are seeing growing opportunities to transition back into education and employment. Several grants have been given to groups focused on helping veterans, which will expand funds that can help them further themselves in schooling and the job market. One rapidly growing field that is receiving funds towards assisting veterans in education and employment is sustainable energy and green technology.
Recently, the Veterans' Workforce Investment Program (VWIP) received a $2 million grant that will be used to help veterans who are eligible for employment, training and support services all pertaining to the field of sustainable energy. Under the VWIP guidance, veterans will receive training in several areas listed within the Workforce Investment Act, including energy-efficient construction, renewable electric power, bio-fuel industry, production of sustainable products, energy efficiency assessment as well as many others.
"These grants will not only help our veterans, they will provide an invaluable service to a burgeoning part of our economy," stated Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis.
According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, some 23 million Americans have a veteran status.
