Extracurricular activities may lead to scholarships for business students

As more people are returning to school for a higher education, a degree in business is rising in popularity and current or prospective students have several opportunities to receive financial aid to help reduce costs of education. Future MBA degree holders have the opportunity to be awarded with scholarships in a variety of ways, including by participating in extracurricular activities.

Many schools offer involvement in these types of events to their students, whether they are campus-based or available through other schools and companies. Recently, the University of Buffalo held the Steven C. Verney MBA Case Competition, an event open to all first-year business students who attend the school.

Participants were divided into teams and required to read and analyze a business case from Harvard, followed by a report that included solutions for the company mentioned in the study. The winning team of six students were awarded with a $500 scholarship each.

According to PayScale.com, a research company, the average salaries for MBA degree holders in 2008 ranged from $73,510 to $171,583, depending on the field, position and years of experience.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19699702-ADNFCR
