Education is always a topic of discussion, and right now the teachers are the ones that are doing the talking. In a recent survey conducted by MetLife, teachers from across the country have expressed their opinions about the field and outlined their hopes for the future. As such, those who are interested in pursuing a degree in education may find that the field may afford them an opportunity to influence the course of educational reforms.
In the poll that is part of the American Teacher: Collaborating for Student Success series, nearly 60 percent of today's teachers are very satisfied with their careers and 39 percent of those who are happy with their career choice are more likely to work in schools that have higher levels of collaborative activities.
Another trend that combines the ability to teach and be heard within the school system is the "hybrid" teaching system. Becoming the norm in many schools, the "hybrid" teaching role allows an educator to combine part-time instruction with administrative or leadership positions within the school district. Nearly 40 percent of teachers are currently interested in "hybrid" teaching, MetLife reported.
Employment of kindergarten, elementary, middle, and secondary school teachers is expected to grow by 13 percent between 2008 and 2018, which is faster than the average for all occupations.
