As the employment of individuals with a background in accounting has become more competitive, many individuals are enrolling in masters degree programs. By obtaining an MBA degree, students and current professionals can increase their value to an employer, which can lead to a higher salary and promotions.
The University of North Colorado Monfort College of Business is among the many schools nationwide that have launched an adult masters degree program in accounting. Individuals who have already entered the workforce will benefit from learning the more advanced skills needed to become a certified public accountant, according to the Greeley Tribune.
Future degree holders who enroll in this program will also enhance their knowledge of accounting research, communications, problem-solving and other skills that can lead to success in their careers.
The new program will be "an extension of the undergraduate accounting program the college already offers, but it will eliminate the need for students to have a double-major to get the required education hours to sit for the CPA exam," stated representatives of the school, quoted by the news source.
Government statistics suggest that employment of accountants and auditors is projected to increase by 22 percent during the next eight years, and that this industry will create approximately 279,400 new jobs.
