Students who are planning to enroll in engineering degree programs may be faced with the challenge of paying for college. In order to lower their educational expenses, individuals can benefit from applying for financial assistance opportunities, which can help reduce the costs of tuition, books and housing.
For example, the SME Foundation recently announced the recipients of its two scholarship programs, which awarded a total of $110,000 in financial assistance to students attending accredited engineering schools. Winners were either the recipients of the SME Education Foundation Family Scholarships or the Charles Chambers Director Scholarships.
Family Scholarship winners are the children or grandchildren of SME members who are attending accredited two- or four-year schools. Students were required to maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher and have scored at least 1000 on the SAT or 21 on the ACT exams.
The Chambers Scholarship recipients are students enrolled in manufacturing engineering and technology programs who have already completed at least 30 credits towards a bachelors, masters or doctoral degree. Recipients must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and demonstrate academic achievement, professional performance and involvement in community service activities.
Raymond G. Adams, former president of the foundation's board, stated that "students who have worked hard to maintain their GPA and have demonstrated their engineering career potential deserve being supported by [these scholarship programs]."
