Employment at nationally recognized hospitals may benefit future nurses

Students who pursue a degree in nursing may find a growing demand for professionals with their educational background. In addition to increased job availability, future degree holders may have the chance to work in some of the top-ranked hospitals nationwide.

For example, Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois was recently named to the American Nurses Credential Center's (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program, which honored the healthcare facility for its excellence in nursing care. The hospital was recognized for meeting the standards set by the ANCC for outstanding , which only includes about 6 percent of the hospitals in the U.S.

Among the requirements that are needed to be designated with Magnet status, hospitals must prove to give their patients confidence in the care they are receiving. Another qualification is the process of hiring nurses and maintaining low job turnover in the hospital, which creates stable working environment with veteran professionals.

Angelique Richard, vice president of Patient Care Services at the hospital, stated that "we have an extremely talented group of nurses and health care professionals who unceasingly deliver quality, patient-centered care." She added that "Magnet designation is the culmination of hard work and collaboration driven by our desire to meet and exceed our patients' expectations."
