
Prospective students who are interested in enrolling or returning to school for a degree in nursing with a specialization in caring for the elderly can find information through schools that offer such programs. Academic institutions are hosting many events that will provide information about jobs that are currently available in this field.
The University of Utah recently announced its Careers in Aging week, which will focus on the growing population of elderly people that will need assistance. Among the events planned during the week-long promotion of elderly care will be an expert panel that will discuss the current career trends in that field. In addition to that, the career fair will feature over 20 representatives from academics, service and industry sectors.
A screening of the documentary Young@Heart, followed by a panel discussion, will conclude the week's events.
The Gerontology Interdisciplinary Program, College of Social Work, College of Nursing and Center on Aging will contribute the funding needed to support this week-long event.
By 2018, the employment of home health aides is expected to grow by 50 percent, which is faster than the average for all other occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In the next eight years, personal and home care aides will see a 46 percent increase in employment.
