Students who wish to become preschool teachers may find that some states now require a bachelor's degree for this type of position. Fortunately, some schools are adding programs in this field so that individuals can pursue higher education in early childhood.
One institution that recently implemented this program is Santa Fe College, according to the school's website. Enrollees can start taking classes next spring to complete the bachelor's degree.
Ed Bonahue, the school's vice president of academic affairs, told the news source that the goal of the program is to serve "people [who are] already teaching or who want to teach preschool." He added that the curriculum will cater to working professionals as "classes are scheduled in late afternoon, evening and online."
Courses for the new bachelor's degree in early childhood education will include preschool topics, classroom management and social and emotional development. Enrollees will also acquire hands-on experience through the campus' pre-kindergarten school, the news provider reports.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of positions for preschool teachers will increase by 19 percent over the next decade. Schools may provide similar programs through which those who are interested can obtain a bachelor's degree.
