Earning an advanced degree in business can provide the skills needed to work in a variety of fields, including the nonprofit sector. Those who work for foundations, in particular, may benefit from the reward of being an active member of their society and while being gainfully employed.

Those who have MBA degrees are branching out of corporate roles and opting to work with organizations focused on social responsibility, for example MBA Without Borders. The organization sends business degree holders to developing countries for two to six months to volunteer in underserved areas, according to BusinessWeek.com.

Tim Elliott, a graduate of the University of California Los Angles Anderson School of Management, left his vice president position with a skin-care company and joined MBA Without Boarders, the news source reports. He spent six months in villages throughout Vietnam and Cambodia, volunteering for a project that helps deliver safe water to people.

Individuals who volunteer for these types of organizations may improve their skills, as many companies are looking for ways to improve how they serve their communities.

Last year, the nonprofit sector employed approximately 5.4 million individuals, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19753145-ADNFCR
