Prospective students who are interested in pursuing higher education may benefit from researching annual scholarship opportunities. By finding financial aid options, individuals can earn an associate, bachelors or masters degree at a lower cost.
For example, the Comcast Foundation recently announced this year's Leaders and Achievers Scholarships recipients, which encourages high school students to pursue higher education and become active members of their local community. The foundation also aims to promote the value of civic duty in the business sector.
A total of 82 students who reside in New Jersey were awarded a $1,000 scholarship each, and two of the recipients were given an additional $5,000 each in financial assistance. Also, 10 students were selected to receive a Netbook computer.
Recipients were chosen based on their academic success, leadership skills and community service involvement.
Pam Lampitt, the chair of the assembly's Committee on Higher Education, stated that this scholarship opportunity "[helps the students] to continue to strengthen our communities and workforce through their pursuit of higher education."
Since its inception in 11 years ago, the foundation has awarded more than 13,300 recipients with a total of $13.4 million.
The average undergraduate student receives up to $9,000 in financial assistance, according to Sallie Mae, a college savings company.
