The role of today's educators is creating impact beyond what they contribute in the classroom. In fact, many colleges across the country encourage students to pursue teaching degrees by emphasizing the importance of this profession to the overall economy.
Representatives from Arizona State University recently hosted the Fixing American Education forum, an event that highlighted the importance of teachers and the contributions this career choice can make to industries across the country.
Debates at the event included providing better career direction for recent graduates and improving accessibility to the most up-to-date course materials. Also, panel speakers emphasized the need to enhance the resources and materials that are used by both educators and students.
"As educators, we must make teaching a career choice for our students," said Mari Koerner, dean at the school. She added that "we have to be the ones who offer the excellence that attracts the students and keeps them in school as they prepare to be the next generation of great teachers."
During the next eight years, the employment of kindergarten, elementary, middle and secondary school teachers is expected to grow by 13 percent, and will create approximately 468,000 new jobs, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.
