Christian studies degree programs expand to online education

As the interest in religious studies continues to rise, schools are adding more of these degrees to their list of online education opportunities. Providing this field of study through distance learning benefits those who need a more flexible class schedule and an education at an affordable cost.

The University of the Cumberlands recently announced the launching of the masters of arts in Christian studies degree program, which will be offered online in eight-week terms twice per year. The enrollment process is scheduled to begin this fall.

Students must take two semesters of Old Testament Survey, New Testament Survey as well as two Christian theology courses. Students also select a specialization, which includes biblical studies, Christian education or church planting. At the end of the program, students participate in a capstone course in which they develop and implement a ministry-setting project.

"[This new offering] is designed to blend both the academic study of the Bible and Christian theology with the practical application of Biblical faith and theology in ministry settings," said Bob Dunston, chair of the Religion Department at the school.

Graduates with degrees in Christian studies can find employment conducting religious worship and performing other spiritual functions associated with beliefs and practices of religious faith or denomination, the Bureau of Labor Statistics explains.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19768703-ADNFCR
