Students who are working towards a college degree and are active members of their campus, community or an international organization can reap a variety of benefits, including receiving national recognition and grants to help further their charitable efforts.
The Jenzabar Foundation, an organization that gives grants to schools and charities, has announced the winners of this year's Student Leadership Awards. These awards honor ten student-run organizations from across the country that contribute to improving higher education beyond their campuses.
The winners have been recognized for activities or projects that took place during the 2009-2010 academic year and made an impact. They will be awarded a $5,000 grant to help finance their continued work.
The organization also announced the Heroic Leaderships Awards, which honored four students and two faculty members from Lynn University who had died during a humanitarian mission in Haiti.
"The accomplishments of each of these award winners are inspirational and the students involved are true leaders who have and will continue to make a real difference in their communities and the world," said Bob Maginn, chairman of the foundation.
He added that "we are pleased to support these student groups and their future endeavors along with the group of Lynn University students and staff that went to Haiti on the 'Food for the Poor' humanitarian mission."
