California school launches nursing degree program

The aging population in the U.S. has created a large demand of employment in the medical industry, especially nurses. Many schools are creating relevant degree programs in these fields of study in order prepare highly-skilled candidates for these jobs.

The Senior Accrediting Commission of the Western Association and Schools and Colleges announced last week the approval of the addition of the bachelors of science in nursing degree at InterAmerica College in National City, California. The new program will benefit the underserved students in the San Diego and Southern California areas who wish to purse an advanced degree in nursing.

Yoram Neumman, president and chief executive officer at the college, stated that "it is estimated that by the year 2020, there will be a shortage of 800,000 nurses." He added that "the healthcare field is one of the fastest growing career choices of today and [these degree programs] will provide the industry with the finest educated nurses."

The demand for nurses is projected to increase by 22 percent in the next eight years, according to the Bureau of the Labor Statistics. The top salaries in this field already exceed $92,000 per year.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19746048-ADNFCR
