Students who are interested in pursuing an associate degree in nursing can benefit from learning from some of the top educators in this field of education.
For example, the Boston Globe's 8th Annual Salute to Nurses recently announced the nominees for several of its awards. Among the professionals recognized, Howard Weiner, a nursing professor at Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC), was nominated by his students for one of the many national recognitions.
Weiner is entering his fifth year at the school, and teaches courses that include psychiatric nursing and success in nursing.
"Professor Weiner champions the needs of the psychologically infirm," said Scott Schocker, a nursing student at BHCC. He added that "professor Weiner has inspired me to seek whatever resources are available in order to treat our patients with professionalism, compassion, empathy and dignity."
Approximately 80 percent of the students who enroll in the nursing program at BHCC, the largest community college in Massachusetts, graduate within two years, and earn eligibility to sit for the Registered Nurse Licensure exams.
By 2018, the employment of registered nurses is expected to grow by 22 percent, and will create an estimated 581,500 new jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
