Success while pursuing a higher education, such as earning a business degree, can benefit students in a variety of ways, including receiving nationally recognized awards.

The annual Babson Student Business of the Year Award (SBYA) was awarded last week to the Emergent Energy Group, which focuses upon the advancement of community-based alternative energy projects and sustainable ventures. This group helps public and private entities to assess their current renewable energy resources and assists in techniques that will help optimize their energy portfolios in the future.

The SBYA was created to recognize outstanding accomplishments by undergraduate students who launch and operate successful enterprises while pursuing a higher education. The student-run organizations are chosen based on initiative, character, originality, persistence and success.

ThinkLite was this year's first runner-up organization, which helps Americans use sustainable technology at an affordable cost. The energy efficiency firm looks to assist communities, businesses and homes save money on monthly energy bills while protecting the environment.

In 2008, MBA degree holders' average annual salaries ranged from $73,510 to $171,583, depending on the field, position and years of experience, PayScale.com reports. ADNFCR-3211-ID-19743286-ADNFCR
