Enrolling in higher education can come with a variety of challenges, including how to finance one's schooling. Fortunately, students who wish to advance their education at a lower cost can find several scholarship opportunities, including competitions that raise awareness of the pressures of middle school.

At the 10th annual Courageous Persuaders ceremony, the Detroit Auto Dealers Association gave $17,000 in scholarships to recipients who aim to educate young people about the dangers of underage drinking. Students who participated in the event were asked to submit 30-second television commercials that were focused on middle school students as their audience.

One of the annual financial aid opportunities that was awarded was the Lindsey Renee Cianciolo Family Memorial Scholarship. Cianciolo's family established this program in memory of Lindsey, who was killed in a 2007 car crash caused by underage drinking, according to the organization's website. Two students who reside in Michigan were awarded $1,500 each for their commercials that highlighted the number of young people who have been injured or killed because of drunk driving.

This year, more than 1,190 students from 383 schools nationwide submitted entries, totaling 743 commercials.

Bill Perkins, the president of association, stated that "we are thrilled at this year's entry turnout and to celebrate the students that understand the serious dangers of underage drinking."ADNFCR-3211-ID-19791241-ADNFCR
