To raise awareness of the psychology field of study, many organizations are hosting events that provide information about a variety of career specializations in this industry. Those who are interested in pursuing a degree in psychology can benefit from attending these types of events by gaining knowledge about different concentrations and developing trends.
The American Psychology Association (APA) has announced May to be Mental Health Month in an effort to promote awareness of homelessness, mental health in children and psychology practice. Included in the APA-sponsored events is a briefing conducted by a panel of psychologists who will discuss ending homelessness and the importance of supportive housing through federal programs.
The APA will also celebrate the fifth anniversary of National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day on May 6, which will feature children expressing their feelings through art, dance and music. Two panels will also hold a discussion that will promote positive social and emotional development and highlight common parenting problems.
On May 18, psychologists from the APA will invite writers and contributors to share mental health and emotional wellness advice on the organization's public blog, entitled Your Mind Your Body.
In the next eight years, employment of psychologists is expected to grow by 12 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.
