Prospective students who are interested in earning a degree in agricultural studies can find several financial aid opportunities and scholarships that are awarded annually. Receiving this type of financial assistance allows future degree holders to advance their education at a lower cost.
The Rocky Mountain Agribusiness Association (RMAA) recently awarded five scholarships worth $1,000 each to graduating seniors planning to pursue higher education. The recipients will be attending a post-secondary school this fall, and plan to study pest management, agricultural business as well as plant and soil science.
Moreover, one student was awarded the Bill Gordon and Dale Seyler Scholarship, which gives the son or daughter of a RMAA member $1,000 in financial assistance. The winner was selected based on academic achievement, leadership skills and involvement in community service.
"RMAA is very proud of these individuals," said Tony Leighty, the organization's president. He added that "it's so important that we advance the profession and help these students that are the future of agriculture."
By 2018, the employment of agricultural and food scientists is projected to grow by 16 percent, which is faster than the average growth expected in all other occupations, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.
