Schools nationwide are recognizing the need for professionals who work in administrative roles in the field of education. In fact, to meet this demand, many academic institutions are creating more degree programs that could better equip these individuals with the skills needed to work in these positions.

The Florida Board of Governors committee recently approved the launching of a doctoral degree in education at the Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), according to the News-Press. Students who enroll in this program can specialize in either curriculum and instruction or educational leadership.

Individuals who are interested in this program would also be introduced to managerial skills, which would help them be successful in these roles, the news source reported.

If the school does receive full approval, FGCU will accept a total of 20 students in the new program during the summer of 2011.

Wilson Bradshaw, president of the school, told the news source that "we anticipate we'll have a number of mid-level administrators lining up for this program."

By 2018, the employment of education administrators is expected to increase by 8 percent, and the demand will create approximately 37,000 new jobs, according to the the Bureau of Labor Statistics.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19839623-ADNFCR
