Accreditation organization approves addition of culinary arts programs

As a result of the growing interest in culinary careers, more national associations are clearing academic institutions to offer accredited programs in this field.

Recently, the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation (ACFEF) approved The Art Institute of Ohio to offer an associate degree in culinary arts. In order for a school to be accredited, it must meet all necessary requirements and pass the evaluation process, according to Cincinnati.com.

The foundation provides accreditation for academic institutions from across the country to launch certifications, postsecondary programs and skill-based competitions. This mission aims to stimulate growth of this industry and increase the number of qualified professionals.

Paul Resetar, interim academic director of the culinary arts programs at the school, told the news source that the accreditation is "a significant milestone for our culinary program." He added that "through earning this prestigious distinction, we have provided our students and graduates with a universally-recognized acknowledgment of our commitment to excellence in culinary education."

In 2008, head chefs and cooks earned annual salaries ranging from $22,860 to $69,560, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19920040-ADNFCR
