Students who are working towards obtaining a business degree, but are not sure which specialization to pursue can benefit from reports that provide information about hiring trends and regions with best job opportunities.
For example, data collected for the National Association of Colleges and Employers annual salary survey predicts that the most jobs available to bachelor degree holders are in accounting, followed by engineering and financial services. Researchers from the association interviewed academic officials from 108 colleges and universities, who based their answers on more than 9,000 job offers, according to BusinessWeek.com.
The survey showed that in 2009, accountants were the only professionals among these three groups who received an increase in pay. Business experts suggest that because accounting jobs aren't affected by economic downturns as much as other fields, these employees are able to receive salary raises.
Employers also reported that candidates who took job-specific courses during their undergraduate studies were more likely to be hired for jobs, the news source reports.
By 2018, the employment of accountants and auditors is expected to increase by 22 percent, and the demand will create 279,400 new jobs nationwide, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.
