Academic collaboration may improve advanced teaching certification opportunities

In an effort to provide teaching students with degrees that can qualify them for better education careers, some academic institutions are partnering to improve transfer options from associate's to bachelor's programs.

Recently, the University of Wisconsin in Stevens Point (UWSP) has announced it will assist students enrolled at three area technical academic institutions earn a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. Enrollees at these schools who have completed two-year programs in this field will be able to transfer credit hours towards a bachelor's degree, according to WSAW.com.

Associate's degree holders can currently work in child care facilities or hold jobs as instructional assistants, but are not licensed to work in schools. By making the transfer process easier between the technical schools and UWSP, more students will be able to improve their professional value and be qualified for better-paying jobs.

Maggie Beeber, advisor for the department of education at UWSP, told the news source that "early childhood educators are in demand in Wisconsin."

Government statistics suggest that during the next eight years, the employment of kindergarten, elementary, middle and secondary teachers is expected to increase by 13 percent, and that demand will create an estimated 468,000 new jobs nationwide.ADNFCR-3211-ID-19925060-ADNFCR
